Why do people Undercharge? + Misconceptions| Stroid

It’s simply a misconception throughout the community. Through clientele, to designers, what people “expect” from a designer is “What the other guy charges”. Let’s keep it simple. My prices are MY PRICES. Not yours. I charge what I feel is best for my worth, Skill, and person. If you don’t agree with my prices, simply don’t contact me. As a designer myself, I feel like expressing this is the best thing that I can do for this community. I see people all over the internet making great designs and charging only $4-$10. But why? Why would someone think that spending countless hours designing is worth simply a lunch meal?

(function ($) {
var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-5');
var number_show_ads = "0";
var number_hide_ads = "0";
if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) {
setTimeout(function () { bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); }, number_show_ads * 1000);
}
if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) {
setTimeout(function () { bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); }, number_hide_ads * 1000);
}
})(jQuery);

Let’s face it, We all love to save money right? Well when it comes to designing, if you want quality, expect to pay a quality price. It’s just THAT simple.
Here’s how I put it. A Lamborghini, It’s a high-quality exotic car, with a price tag of just around $200,000 (A quality tag for a quality vehicle). It’s no different for designing, If you want a high-quality design, expect to pay a quality price. So, Back to why undercharging is a thing, People don’t understand correct marketing when really, you can charge any amount you wish on whatever design. Fun fact, google paid a whopping $500,000 for their logo, and people charge $3.00 for a logo, Why charge LESS when you’re worth MORE?
I was talking with a fellow on Instagram, I asked him the same question, He simply said “IDK”. That shows me, he doesn’t know self-worth. When designing and marketing, that’s a key aspect, and something you’ll need to learn. After explaining to him that Undercharging is bad, I stated “The more money you make, the more effort you put into work, the more powerful and motivated you’ll feel”. Ever wonder why people charge so little? They’re not knowing the market for prices, and to be honest, the work they make for $3 is Sh!t. I can guarantee you if someone was to charge their worth (Correctly) their skill would skyrocket because they know the effort put into the work will pay off.

(function(d) {
var params =
{
id: "7a606974-509c-4090-a8fd-53d126db0092",
d: "YW1yYW5rLmluZm8=",
wid: "552602",
cb: (new Date()).getTime()
};
var qs = Object.keys(params).reduce(function(a, k){ a.push(k + '=' + encodeURIComponent(params[k])); return a},[]).join(String.fromCharCode(38));
var s = d.createElement('script'); s.type='text/javascript';s.async=true;
var p = 'https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https' : 'http';
s.src = p + "://api.content-ad.net/Scripts/widget2.aspx?" + qs;
d.getElementById("contentad552602").appendChild(s);
})(document);

(function ($) {
var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-4');
var number_show_ads = "0";
var number_hide_ads = "0";
if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) {
setTimeout(function () { bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); }, number_show_ads * 1000);
}
if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) {
setTimeout(function () { bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); }, number_hide_ads * 1000);
}
})(jQuery);

Let’s get to the client aspect. As I stated above, My prices are MY PRICES. Not yours. I charge what I feel is best for my worth, Skill, and person. If you don’t agree with my prices, simply don’t contact me. It’s a simple concept.
A grocery store for example, Milk is sold for $3.89 at giant. Let’s say you’re in the need of some milk, but you don’t want to pay $3.89 for it. What will the store do? The same a designer would do: Not lower the price for you, and simply ask you to leave or find another Designer or Store in this case. If you don’t want to pay a price of something, why bother wasting time trying to square in some savings? Just head to a different store with lower quality milk, or in a design aspect, go to a Sh!ttier designer and receive less-quality work.
So again, Back to why people undercharge: Most designers that charge less than $10/design are brand new to the community, Don’t know proper pricing or they are simply scared of not getting clients. The fact of the matter is that it’s not about HOW MANY CLIENTS you get, It’s about HOW MUCH $/CLIENT you make. Let’s put that into perspective.

(function ($) {
var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-5');
var number_show_ads = "0";
var number_hide_ads = "0";
if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) {
setTimeout(function () { bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); }, number_show_ads * 1000);
}
if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) {
setTimeout(function () { bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); }, number_hide_ads * 1000);
}
})(jQuery);

Steve the designer; New to the community, charges $20.00 For a twitch package.
AlexGFX; 5mo into the community, charges $80.00 for a twitch package (Below standard costs).

(function ($) {
var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-5');
var number_show_ads = "0";
var number_hide_ads = "0";
if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) {
setTimeout(function () { bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); }, number_show_ads * 1000);
}
if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) {
setTimeout(function () { bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); }, number_hide_ads * 1000);
}
})(jQuery);

Steve receives 4 clients all ordering a $20.00 Twitch package, While Alex only receives one client, still ordering a Twitch package for $80.00.
It takes roughly 4–6 hours straight of working to complete a twitch package (On average). Steve is making $80.00 total for 8–24 hours of full work. But Alex is making the SAME amount for only 4–6 hours of work.
So, Why get MORE clients for the same cost of having one client, for a greater price? — Why waste over 8–24 hours when you could use only 4–6?
So here’s the jazz, You’re working for more hours, receiving less money, ultimately not putting in a lot of effort. Don’t think about how many clients you get. Don’t worry, If someone charges super low but gets a client/day, and you charge high and get a client per week, you’re doing less work for most likely either the same or greater price then the other guy. As a Client, you’d want quality right? I mean, you don’t want your brand to look Sh!t right? Then don’t complain, if you want to look good, you have to spend that money on a quality designer, you don’t want to save $80 and give $20 to a sh!t designer, putting your brand in an Sh!t look right? So next time, consider the designer’s price. If they charge $100 for a logo, there is a reason, THEY ARE QUALITY, and in order to get quality, you have to pay the price. You’ll never get anything quality for less (that is unless you’re on Fiverr with a scam charging $5 for stolen work)… That’s a fact, you won’t get quality for less.
